Welcome to the FX, Characterization and Body Painting PRO professional makeup course. These are the characteristics of the course:
The classes are theoretical and supervised practical. Generally you will make up yourself and other students, as well as half bodies and full body painting of an external model.
In these cases you can choose the model with whom to work with an acquaintance or volunteer models will also be provided to you by the academy for your projects during the course.
During the course you will learn the most used techniques in the world of professional makeup, Face and Body Painting, as well as the bases of airbrushing, special effects makeup for events, magazines, theater, cinema, etc.
The course is taught by Leo Altamirano, founder of the Body Painting academy, studio and shop in Barcelona. Member of the WBPA World Body Painting Association. There is also the possibility of having classes taught by invited professionals to share their knowledge on specific topics.
In this dossier we inform you about the most important characteristics of each class and the possible basic materials to use. Students can bring their own materials or they can also buy them in the academy store. All students will have the respective professional discount of each brand. You will find in each class the basic materials necessary to carry it out, but it is always recommended to bring all kinds of extra materials to be able to do it, since you will always want to add techniques already learned in previous classes even if they are not within the theme of the day, for example , if you have already learned to apply latex or some wax, you are free to apply it in any future class.
You will be given a theme or challenge that you will know what it is about a week before or even at the time of the class. Generally these small changes or twists of the class are focused on fostering your creativity and preparing you for the real environment of a professional makeup artist. With each class the difficulty and use of techniques already learned will increase.
January 13 – Color theory and application of water-based makeup.
In this first class there will be a brief introduction to the course, facilities and a review of the rules and contracts of the academy.
The class is focused on understanding colors in order to express the emotions you want to convey in your work, helping you with color theory. Some of the most used techniques for the application of water-based makeup with a brush and sponge will also be given.
Basic materials: makeup, body paint, brushes and sponges.
January 20 – High contrast, complementary colors and skin tones.
In this class, the correct use of professional makeup brushes and brushes is explained. In addition to this, color theory will be used to use complementary colors and be able to enhance makeup or create interesting contrasts that help us emphasize some area or give more importance to a certain area of makeup, face or body

January 27 – Contouring and physiognomy of the face.
This class is focused on understanding the differences between light-dark and contouring.
It is about beginning to understand the physiognomy of the face in combination with blending techniques in order to create the desired effects and to be able to enhance or modify facial features, later also to be able to add certain personality to some artistic makeup.

February 3 – Visagism.
In this class, visagism is analyzed as well as the trends of social makeup adapted to social or cultural stereotypes.
Basic materials: makeup, body paint, brushes, sponges and fx wax and/or mastix and/or sealant and fixing or translucent or anti-shine powder or talc.
February 10 – Lighting, photography and social networks.
The importance of the lighting conditions of the environment in which you will work will be explained. The lights will be controlled to take photographs or videos focused on social networks.
You will have to adapt makeup to controlled light conditions for social media.
Basic materials: makeup, body paint, pigments or shadows, brushes and sponges.
February 17 – Lighting, UV paint application and light techniques.
The importance of the lighting conditions of the environment in which you will work will be explained. The objective is to begin to understand the technical differences of the type of makeup to apply depending on the environment and working light.
The points to take into account for the application of ultraviolet paint will be explained, taking into account that they are the most complicated colors to apply and that the color range grows exponentially.
The makeup will have to be adapted to the light conditions where it will be presented.

February 24 – Airbrush makeup application.
Students can make use of the academy's airbrushes. Each student is free to continue using the techniques learned in previous classes, but the application of paint, effects and/or airbrush makeup is mandatory during all subsequent classes until July 17. It is about the students learning the basic techniques of airbrushing, problems and benefits of its use in artistic makeup and body painting.
It will begin with the correct use and cleaning of the airbrush and how to approach this technique to artistic makeup and airbrush blending techniques will be analyzed.
Basic materials: make-up, body paint, airbrush body paint, ISO 99% propyl alcohol and/or special thinner or diluent, brushes and sponges.
March 2 – Cold and warm colors.
In this class, color theory is resumed to be able to play with the colors and emotions of cold and warm tones. The use of the airbrush will continue to be practiced and they will begin to create blurs.
Basic materials: makeup, body paint, airbrush body paint, ISO 99% propyl alcohol and/or special thinner or diluent, stencils, brushes and sponges.
March 9 – Use of templates and quick effects in creative makeup.
How to apply airbrushing with limiting lines, templates and obstacles that allow us to make simple effects. Different quick techniques will also be applied for creative effects in artistic makeup.
Basic materials: makeup, body paint, airbrush body paint, ISO 99% propyl alcohol and/or special thinner or diluent, stencils, brushes and sponges.
March 16 – Geometry and lines.
The importance of the different types of lines and geometry in the design will be explained in order to achieve the desired attitude or personality in artistic makeup.
In this class you must decide if for the next class you will work with your own model or if the academy is required to provide a voluntary model.
Basic materials: makeup, body paint, airbrush body paint, ISO 99% propyl alcohol and/or special thinner or diluent, stencils, brushes and sponges.
March 23 – Effects with latex.
This is the last class in which the use of an airbrush is mandatory. The range of possibilities for the use of latex in artistic makeup and special effects will be studied.
Basic materials: makeup, body paint, airbrush body paint, ISO 99% propyl alcohol and/or special thinner or diluent, liquid latex, brushes and sponges.
March 30 - No classes
April 6 – Partial Body painting (Body Contouring).
In this class you will paint an external model. The use of the airbrush will be focused to give lights and shadows on the body to create a body contouring.
Basic materials: make-up, body paint, airbrush body paint, ISO 99% propyl alcohol and/or special thinner or diluent, brushes and sponges.
April 13 – Clay cracked effect.
In this class the rules of FX materials are learned with the explanation of the great variety of materials to be used and the creation of basic molds will be explained. After this, a make-up with a cracking effect will be made with body clay.
The adhesive cleaner or removers will be indispensable materials from this class
Basic materials: makeup, body paint, brushes and/or sponges, adhesive cleaner or removers and body clay.
April 20 – Creation of mixtures and textures.
In this class you learn different techniques to create different textures, to apply in your artistic makeup work. use of materials and techniques to obtain organic textures and mixtures of products to obtain finishes of liquid metal, sweat, shine, etc.
Basic materials: makeup, body paint, brushes and/or sponges, adhesive cleaner or removers, mixing media or gloss or glycerin and special brushes or effect sponges.
April 27 – Body Glue and introduction to FX
In this class you begin to introduce the makeup of special effects FX and SFX, Latex and other elements such as sealant, waxes, glues, bald spots and other materials will begin to be very useful. You will learn to apply latex or silicone prostheses.
The types of body glues that are on the market will be analyzed and elements will be applied in the make-up of the day. Creativity of this kind can lead to the use of almost any type of lightweight object to create innovative designs.
Basic materials: makeup, body paint, body glue, body adhesive remover, brushes and sponges.
May 4 – Creation of fake wounds and prostheses.
In this class, the correct use of colors to create credible fake wounds based on human anatomy will be explained. The most used techniques will be explained based on them and doubts will be clarified about the molds for FX prostheses.
Once understanding the correct colors, various wounds will be made based on specific indications and demands.
Basic materials: makeup, body paint, brushes and/or sponges, adhesive cleaner or removers, adhesive and/or mastix, liquid latex, waxes or soft putty or jellies, edge filler or liquid latex or sealant or pros aide to smooth edges, fixing or translucent powders or anti-shine or talc.
May 11 – Continuation of the creation of prostheses.
May 18 – Placement of bald spots.
In this class, the bald spot placement technique will be taught with its variants. Once the bald spot is placed, a self-makeup will be done, taking advantage of the entire area of the head to paint.
Basic materials: makeup, body paint, brushes and/or sponges, adhesive cleaner or removers, adhesive and/or mastix, professional bald spot, edge filler or liquid latex or sealant or pros aide to smooth edges, fixing or translucent powder or anti-shine or talc.
May 25 – Film and theater aging techniques.
In this class, the differences between the techniques of theater makeup and film makeup for aging will be explained. Once the explanations are finished, we will proceed to make an aging with the use of latex.
Basic materials: makeup, body paint, brushes and/or sponges, adhesive cleaner or removers, liquid latex and fixing or translucent or anti-shine powder or talc.
June 1 – Creation of scales and petals.
In this class, different techniques will be given for the creation of scales or reptile skins, for visual effects with reliefs. The techniques of blending with water-based makeup and the use of split cakes will be deepened.
Basic materials: makeup, body paint and/or split cakes, brushes and/or sponges, adhesive remover, liquid latex and/or soft putty and/or FX waxes and/or sealant, fixing or translucent or anti-shine powder or talc.
June 8 – Dimension and visual effects.
For this class, concepts of light, shadow and dimension will be explained for their use in visual effects for face painting. On this occasion, another person will be made up and there will be time limits for its creation.
Basic materials: makeup, body paint, brushes and/or sponges, adhesive cleaner or removers.
June 15 – Camouflage
In this class, a specific fabric or background will be chosen to be able to do the camouflage effects, focusing only on a specific point of the camera's eye. The fabrics can be provided by the academy, but the student can propose some of their own fabric, but it must cover a certain degree of difficulty. It will be explained
also the drawbacks of creating camouflage both indoors and outdoors.
Basic materials: makeup, body paint, body glue, body adhesive remover, brushes and sponges.
(it is recommended to bring all available colors for your combination)
June 22 – Creative Makeup FX.
In this class all doubts about the creation of prostheses will be clarified. All students will be able to decide whether to make their own prostheses in the future or buy them. In this class students will have to create visual effects with the use of prosthetics created at the moment.
The importance of creativity and knowledge of the products are the key for this class, it is about planning a look at the moment with applications of quick creation, encouraging creativity and breaking the rules of FX
Basic materials: makeup, body paint, brushes and/or sponges, adhesive remover, glitter gel or body cream, glitter and/or crystals, clay or plaster or monster clay or bald head or any material chosen for the first mold, as well as the use of liquid latex or silicone for the creation of the prosthesis.
The materials to be used in the next class of beards will also be discussed.
June 29 – Placement of Beards.
In this class, different application techniques for beards and hair are explained. as well as the chopping technique. The materials used will depend on each student.
July 6 – Freezing effects.
In this class you will choose between a realistic makeup or take it to fantasy, you will study the real colors of the freezing process and various ways to create snow or ice effects.
Basic materials: makeup, body paint, body glue, body adhesive remover, ice kit effect, glitter or holographic flakes or some type of glitter, brushes and sponges.
July 13 - Time management and catwalks.
In this class we begin to understand the world of work that awaits us, the difficulty of the classes increases to be able to work under pressure and face various inconveniences.
Basic materials: makeup, body paint, brushes and/or sponges, adhesive cleaner or removers, social makeup, eye shadows or pigments, highlighters or glitters. In this class you can make use of indistinct materials to speed up makeup time and acquire speed.
July 20 – Improvisation.
After knowing how to manage our time, we will also have to know how to manage problems, improvise and achieve the objectives of each project regardless of the inconvenience.
The materials to be used will not be known, bring your briefcase as varied as possible to this class.
July 27 – Aftershocks.
In this class you will have to match a makeup with all the necessary materials, after creating this makeup you will have to decide what you prefer, whether to adapt to the rules or create your own rules.
Basic materials: makeup, body paint, brushes, sponges and fx wax and/or mastix and/or sealant and fixing or translucent or anti-shine powder or talc.
August - Holidays
September 7 – Theatrical characterization.
In this class, specific characterization techniques for theater and also used for comic or manga effects are explained. With these effects it is possible to make aging, personifications and alterations in an exaggerated way only with the use of lines, light and shadow.
Basic materials: makeup, body paint, brushes and/or sponges, adhesive remover.
September 14 – Adaptation to objects.
In this class the student must adapt to the objects provided by the academy. He will also have to adapt to the materials that the academy decides have to be used based on the chosen object.
The student should bring as many materials as possible, since he does not know what he may need in this improv class.
The materials to be used in the next class of headdresses will be discussed.
From this class the basic materials to be used in each class will not be indicated, students must bring the materials they consider necessary or improvise due to their lack.
September 21 – Styling, creation of super fast headdresses and makeup.
Totally creative class. During the creation of the headdresses, it will be explained what the dynamics of the end of the class will be like, where super-quick makeup challenges will be done.
September 28 – Continuation of Styling, Creation of super fast headdresses and makeup.
October 5 – Establish opinion and content.
It will be analyzed how to have your own personality without losing sight of personal marketing and being able to work for third parties in an artistic field.
In this class it will be requested that the works reflect a social, political content or simple expression and personal opinion. The main goal at the Leo Altamirano Academy of Body Painting and Artistic Makeup is for students to express their opinions and emotions freely, as long as they know how to add the artistic part, even in work for companies and clients that require a specific theme.
Some tricks will also be explained to facilitate the next class.
October 12 – No Classes.
October 19 – Cinematographic characterization.
This class explains the possible techniques to give realism to a specific character. The degree of difficulty of this class is very high and for this reason it should be taken lightly since it is very possible that it will not turn out as you expect.
Possible use of FX waxes and/or accessories or wigs.
October 26 – Styling
For this class, makeup and partial body paunting will be done with outfits and accessories worthy of a catwalk for which expectations will already be established. Makeup will be done to an external model.
November 2 – Halloween Special.
November 9 – Sketches and Personal Marketing and Social Media.
From this class the preparations for the final styling and Full Body Painting work will begin.

November 16 – Characterization video marketing Social Media and Cosplay
In this class, a trending makeup for social networks and digital marketing will be made. It is about creating original and striking content, either for the sale of a product or for the personal image.
November 23 – Business marketing and photography
In this class you will study why sometimes a picture is worth a thousand words. What are the normal demands of private clients and companies when it comes to an artist enclosing everything the final client needs to know in a single image.
November 30 – Body Painting Final.
For the final class, the student will have to decide whether to paint himself or have an external model, but it is a full-body body painting, with the techniques and knowledge learned in the academy.
