All courses are reduced to a maximum of 12 students to obtain personalized attention on each student's progress.

This course does NOT include materials. Students are allowed to bring their own work materials or they can also be purchased at the academy store. The basic materials needed for this course cost approximately between €400 and €800. In the Academy you will be provided with all the necessary materials for cleaning the airbrushes, brushes and tools, as well as the use of the shower and the facilities of the studio and the academy.

The airbrushes provided by the Academy during the course are of the highest quality. Specifically designed for the use of Senjo Color Face and Body painting by the German brand Harder & Steenbeck. Students may also bring their own airbrush and use the academy's compressors.

In this course it will be required on several occasions to paint another person. The student will be able to make up a model provided by the academy or bring their own model.

Welcome to the Professional Makeup and Body Painting PRO course. These are the characteristics of the course:

Classes are supervised theoretical and practical. Generally you will make up yourself and other students, as well as painting half bodies and full body body painting of an external model.
In these cases you can choose the model with whom to work with someone you know or you will also be provided by the academy volunteer models for your projects during the course.

During the course you will learn the most used techniques in the world of professional makeup, Face and Body Painting, as well as the bases of airbrushing, special effects makeup for events, magazines, theater, cinema, etc.

The course is taught by Leo Altamirano, founder of the Body Painting academy, studio and store in Barcelona. Member of the World Body Painting Association WBPA. There is also the possibility of having classes taught by invited professionals to share their knowledge on specific topics.

In this dossier we inform you about the most important characteristics of each class and the possible basic materials to use. Students can bring their own supplies or they can also buy them in the academy shop. All students will have the respective professional discount for each brand.

You will find in each class the basic materials necessary to carry it out, but it is always recommended to bring all kinds of extra materials to be able to do it, since you will always want to add techniques already learned in previous classes even if they are not within the topic of the day, for example If you have already learned how to apply latex or some wax, you are free to apply it in any future class.

You will be given a theme or challenge that you will know what it is about a week before or even at the time of the class. Generally these small changes or twists of the class are focused on fostering your creativity and preparing you for the real environment of a professional artistic makeup artist. With each class the difficulty and use of techniques already learned will increase.

March 5 – Color theory and application of makeup to water.

In this first class there will be a brief introduction to the course, facilities and a review of the rules and contracts of the academy.

The class is focused on understanding colors in order to express the emotions you want to convey in your work, helping you with color theory. Some of the most used techniques for applying makeup to water with a brush and sponge will also be given.

March 12 – High contrast, complementary colors and skin tones.

In this class, the correct use of professional makeup brushes is explained. In addition to this, color theory will be used to make use of complementary colors and be able to enhance makeup or create interesting contrasts that help us emphasize some area or give greater importance to a certain area of ​​makeup, face or body

March 19 – Contouring and physiognomy of the face.

This class is focused on understanding the differences between chiaroscuro and contouring.

It is about beginning to understand the physiognomy of the face in combination with blurring techniques to be able to create the desired effects and be able to enhance or modify features of the face, later also being able to add a certain personality to some artistic makeup.

March 26 – Visagism.

This class analyzes visagism as well as trends in social make-up adapted to social or cultural stereotypes.

April 2 – Physiognomy of the face.

In this class, different aspects of the physiognomy of the face are analyzed in order to highlight or modify its features. The main objective of the class will be to modify the sizes and appearance of the nose, eyes and mouth.

Basic materials: makeup, body paint, brushes, sponges and fx wax and/or mastix and/or sealer and fixative or translucent or anti-gloss powder or talcum powder.

April 9 – Lighting, UV paint application and light techniques.

The importance of the lighting conditions of the environment in which they will work will be explained. The objective is to begin to understand the technical differences of the type of makeup to apply depending on the environment and work light.

It will be explained about the points to take into account for the application of ultraviolet paint, taking into account that they are the most complicated colors to apply and that the color range grows exponentially.

You will have to adapt the makeup to the light conditions where it will be presented.

April 16 – Holy Week. (there is no classes)

April 23 – Airbrush makeup application.

Students can make use of the academy's airbrushes. Each student is free to continue using the techniques learned in previous classes, but the application of paint, effects and/or airbrush makeup is mandatory during all the following classes until July 17. It is about students learning the basic techniques of airbrushing, problems and benefits of its use in artistic makeup and body painting.

It will begin with the correct use and cleaning of the airbrush and how to approach this technique to artistic makeup and blurring techniques with airbrushing will be analyzed.

Basic materials: makeup, body paint, airbrush body paint, 99% ISO propyl alcohol and/or special thinner or diluent, brushes and sponges.

April 30 – Cold and warm colors.

In this class, color theory is taken up again to be able to play with the colors and emotions of cold and warm tones. The use of the airbrush will continue to be practiced and they will begin to create blurring.

Basic materials: makeup, body paint, airbrush body paint, 99% ISO propyl alcohol and/or special thinner or diluent, stencils, brushes and sponges.

May 7 – Use of templates and quick effects in creative makeup.

How to apply airbrushing with limiting lines, templates and obstacles that allow us to make simple effects. Different quick techniques will also be applied for creative effects in artistic makeup.

Basic materials: makeup, body paint, airbrush body paint, 99% ISO propyl alcohol and/or special thinner or diluent, stencils, brushes and sponges.

May 14 – Geometry and lines.

The importance of the different types of lines and geometry in the design will be explained in order to achieve the desired attitude or personality in artistic makeup.

In this class, it must be decided if for the next class they will work with their own model or if the academy is required to provide a voluntary model.

Basic materials: makeup, body paint, airbrush body paint, 99% ISO propyl alcohol and/or special thinner or diluent, stencils, brushes and sponges.

May 21 – Partial Body painting (Body Contouring).

In this class you will paint to an external model. The use of the airbrush will be focused to give lights and shadows on the body to create body contouring.

Basic materials: makeup, body paint, airbrush body paint, 99% ISO propyl alcohol and/or special thinner or diluent, brushes and sponges.

May 28 – Effects with latex.

This is the last class in which the use of an airbrush is mandatory. The range of possibilities for the use of latex in artistic makeup and special effects will be studied.

Basic materials: makeup, body paint, airbrush body paint, 99% ISO propyl alcohol and/or special thinner or diluent, liquid latex, brushes and sponges.

June 4 – Cracked effect with clay.

In this class the rules of FX materials are learned with the explanation of the great variety of materials to be used and the creation of basic molds will be explained. After this, a make-up with a cracking effect will be made with body clay.

Adhesive cleaner or remover will be indispensable materials from this class

Basic materials: makeup, body paint, brushes and/or sponges, adhesive cleaner or remover, and body clay.

June 11 – Body Glue and Introduction to FX

In this class we begin to introduce FX and SFX special effects makeup. Latex and other elements such as sealant, waxes, glues, bald spots and other materials will begin to be very useful. You will learn to apply latex or silicone prostheses.

The types of body glues on the market will be analyzed and elements will be applied in the make-up of the day. The creativity of this class can lead to the use of almost any kind of lightweight objects to create innovative designs.

Basic materials: makeup, body paint, body glue, body sticker remover, brushes and sponges.

June 18 – Creation of fake wounds and prosthetics.

This class will explain the correct use of colors to create credible fake wounds based on human anatomy. The most used techniques will be explained based on them and doubts about the molds for FX prostheses will be clarified.

Once understanding the correct colors, various wounds will be made based on the specific indications and demands.

Basic materials: makeup, body paint, brushes and/or sponges, adhesive cleaner or remover, adhesive and/or mastic, liquid latex, waxes or soft putty or gelatin, edge filler or liquid latex or sealer or pros aid to smooth edges, fixative or translucent or anti-gloss powder or talcum powder.

June 25 – Placement of bald caps.

In this class the bald placement technique with its variants will be taught. Once the bald spot is placed, a self-makeup will be done, taking advantage of the entire area of ​​the head to paint.

Basic materials: makeup, body paint, brushes and/or sponges, adhesive cleaner or remover, adhesive and/or mastic, professional bald spot, edge filler or liquid latex or sealant or pros aid to smooth edges, fixing or translucent or anti-gloss powder or talc.

July 2 – Cinema and theater aging techniques.

In this class, the differences between the techniques of theater makeup and film makeup for aging will be explained. Once the explanations are finished, an aging process will be carried out with the use of latex.

July 9 – Creation of scales and petals.

In this class, different techniques will be given for the creation of scales or reptile skins, for visual effects with reliefs. The techniques of blurring with water-based makeup and the use of split cakes will be deepened.

Basic materials: makeup, body paint and/or split cakes, brushes and/or sponges, adhesive cleaner, liquid latex and/or soft putty and/or FX waxes and/or sealant, fixing or translucent or anti-gloss powder or talcum powder.

July 16 – Dimension and visual effects.

For this class, concepts of light, shadow and dimension will be explained for use in visual effects for face painting. On this occasion another person will be made up and there will be time limits for its creation.

July 23 – World Body Painting Festival 2022. (no classes this day)

Students will be able to attend the festival with free admission if they wish to travel to Klagenfurt, Austria if they wish.

July 30 – Camouflage

In this class, a specific fabric or background will be chosen to be able to do camouflage effects, focusing only on a specific point of the camera's eye. The fabrics can be provided by the academy, but the student can propose their own fabric, but this must cover a certain degree of difficulty. It will be explained

also the drawbacks of creating camouflage both indoors and outdoors.

August – no classes – no monthly payment either -

In August, the students of the course can attend workshops for free.

September 3 – Creative FX makeup.

In this class all doubts about the creation of prostheses will be clarified. All students will be able to decide whether to make their own prosthetics in the future or to buy them. In this class students will have to create visual effects with the use of prosthetics created on the spot.

The importance of creativity and product knowledge is key for this class, it's about planning a look on the fly with quick build apps, encouraging creativity and breaking the rules of FX

Basic materials: makeup, body paint, brushes and/or sponges, adhesive cleaner, glitter gel or body cream, glitter and/or crystals, clay or plaster or monster clay or bald heads or any material chosen for the first mold, as well as the use of liquid latex or silicone for the creation of the prosthesis.

We will also talk about the materials to use in the next class of beards.

September 10 – Placement of Beards.

This class explains different techniques for applying beards and hair. as well as the chopping technique. The materials used will depend on each student.

September 17 – Freezing effects.

In this class, a specific fabric will be chosen to be able to do camouflage effects, focusing only on a specific point of the camera's eye. The fabrics can be provided by the academy, but the student can propose their own fabric, but this must cover a certain degree of difficulty.

Basic materials: makeup, body paint, body glue, body sticker remover, ice kit effect, glitter or holographic flakes or some type of glitter, brushes and sponges.

September 24 – La Mercè (no classes).

The students will be able to decide if they prefer this day or Saturday 25 after the night of Sant Joan.

October 1 - Time management and gateways.

In this class we begin to understand the world of work that awaits us, the difficulty of the classes increases to be able to work under pressure and face various inconveniences.

Basic materials: makeup, body paint, brushes and/or sponges, adhesive cleaner or remover, social makeup, eye shadows or pigments, illuminators or glitters. In this class you can make use of indistinct materials to speed up makeup time and gain speed.

October 8 – Improvisation.

After knowing how to manage our time, we will also have to know how to manage problems, improvise and achieve the objectives of each project regardless of the inconveniences.

The materials to be used will not be known, bring your briefcase as varied as possible to this class.

October 15 – Aftershocks.

In this class you will have to match a makeup with all the necessary materials, after creating this makeup you will have to decide what you prefer, whether to adapt to the rules or create your own rules.

October 22 – Theatrical characterization.

This class explains the specific characterization techniques for theater and also used for comic or manga effects. With these effects it is possible to make aging, personifications and alterations in an exaggerated way only with the use of lines, light and shadow.

October 29 – Adaptation to objects.

In this class the student must adapt to the objects provided by the academy. It will also have to adapt to the materials that the academy decides have to be used based on the chosen object.

The student should bring as many materials as possible, since he does not know what he may need in this improvisation class.

The materials to be used in the next class of headdresses will be discussed.

From this class the basic materials to be used in each class will not be indicated, students must bring the materials they consider necessary or improvise if they are not available.

November 5 – Styling, creation of fascinators and super fast makeup.

Totally creative class. During the creation of the headdresses, it will be explained how the dynamics of the end of the class will be, where super fast makeup challenges will be done.

November 12 – Establish opinion and content.

It will be analyzed how to have your own personality without losing sight of personal marketing and being able to work for third parties in an artistic field.

In this class, the works will be asked to reflect a social, political or simple expression and personal opinion content. The main goal at the Leo Altamirano Academy of Body Painting and Artistic Makeup is for students to express their opinions and emotions freely, as long as they know how to add the artistic part even in jobs for companies and clients that require a specific theme.

Some tricks will also be explained to facilitate the next class.

November 19 – Cinematographic characterization.

This class explains the possible techniques to give realism to a specific character. The degree of difficulty of this class is very high and therefore it should be taken lightly since it is very possible that it will not turn out as expected.

Possible use of FX waxes and/or accessories or wigs.

November 26 – Characterization video marketing Social Media and Cosplay

In this class, a trending makeup for social networks and digital marketing will be done. It is about creating original and striking content, either for the sale of a product or for personal image.

From this class, preparations will begin for the final styling and Full Body Painting works.

December 3 – Business Marketing and Photography

This class will study why a picture is sometimes worth a thousand words. What are the normal demands of private clients and companies when it comes to an artist enclosing everything the final client needs to know in a single image.

December 10 – Styling

For this class, makeup and partial body painting will be done with outfits and accessories worthy of a catwalk for which expectations will already be established. The make-up will be done on an external model.

December 17 – Final Body Painting.

For the final class the student will have to decide whether to paint himself or have an external model, but it is a full body body painting, with the techniques and knowledge learned in the academy.
